Film Name- My Name is Khan
Director- Karan Johar
Produced- Hiroo Johar, Gauri Khan
Starring- Shahrukh Khan, Kajol, Jimmy Shergil
Writer- Karan Johar, Shibani Bhatija
Music- Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy
Stepping out of his ‘comfort’ zone, Karan Johar is not a man who is resting on his laurels. Approaching a sensitive issue with some maturity and thought, Karan Johar has managed to not only address the issues he wished to but also fit ‘My Name is Khan’ into the generic story telling format which has become synonymous with Bollywood (This is not a lament). Though the film was a bit slow at times and with the Bollywood masala, at times even bizarre, it still makes a good movie to watch. The biggest disappointment to me was the soundtrack which was dull and did not excite me. Knowing it was the work of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy only made me sadder. Despite certain shortcomings the movie was a good watch.
what this is all about
I make no claims about being a professional movie critic. This is merely a study of all the films I will watch starting from the 1st of March, 2011. Feel free to dismiss them as the ranting of a smartass. But if you find something interesting, please let me know

'The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus' movie review
Film Name- The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
Director- Terry Williams
Produced- Samuel Hadida, Amy Gilliam, William Vince, Terry Gillia
Starring- Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Christopher Plummer, Jude Law, Colin Farrell, Verne Troyer, Tom Waits, Andrew Garfield, Lily Cole
Writer- Terry Gillian, Charles Mckeown
Music- Jeff Danna, Mychael Danna
The film drew me in immediately. The splendid lighting and art direction was a real wonder. However after this the movie was quite ambiguous and vague. I was never really sure about what was happening and through the entire course of the film it felt like I was missing something. Something the director wanted me to understand but wasn’t able to put it across well enough. This sense of something missing was so overwhelming that it made me go online and make sure I had understood the plot of them film. The cast line-up was outstanding with Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Christopher Plummer, Jude Law, Colin Farrell, Verne Troyer, Tom Waits and Andrew Garfield all playing their parts beautifully. With some very nice costumes and breath taking visuals, ‘The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus’ is a good watch. All I can say is, approach with caution

'Tanu Weds Manu' movie review
Film Name- Tanu Weds Manu
Director- Anand L. Rai
Produced- Vinod Bachchan, Shailesh R. Singh and Surya Singh
Starring- R. Madhavan, Kangana Ranaut and Jimmy Shergil
Writer- Himanshu Sharma
Music- Krsna
There are very, very few positives I can say about the film. I think I should get those out of the way. Deepak Dobriyal as a loving sidekick plays Pappi, an amiable and hilarious character. Dobriyal is likable, amusing and pulls you in immediately. R. Madhavan and Jimmy Shergil, predictably have acted as well as the script would allow. However their best efforts, they were no match for the massive shortcomings of the rest of the film. Kangana Ranaut vainly attempting to play a character not unlike the character Kareena Kapoor plays in ‘Jab We Met. Except Kangana Ranaut comes across as a light-headed, silly, adolescent girl who strays out of character far too often to be taken seriously. The film is rather bland and doesn’t excite in the slightest. The monotony is broken occasionally by an unpredictable and humorous chain of events that the director has failed to follow through. All in all the film left me praying for the sweet release only death could bring.

'Karthik Calling Karthik' movie review
Film name- Karthik calling Karthik
Director- Vijay Lalwani
Produced- Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under the banner of Excel Entertainment
Starring- Farhan Akhtar, Deepika Padukone, Ram Kapoor and Shefali Shah
Writer- Vijay Lalwani
Music- Shankar- Ehsaan– Loy
Background Score- MIDIval Punditz and Karsh Kale
Armed with some very interesting camera work and lighting and some inspiring music, Karthik Calling Karthik is surely a head-turner. There were times through the progress of the film that I got distracted and started looking towards my phone. But the film always managed to bring me back. This I believe can be largely attributed to the soundtrack.
There were some nice touches in script and direction through the movie. Though sometimes these could have been more subtle. The Rubik’s cube that was meant as a metaphor for his state of mind and life, though a nice touch was as noticeable as a kick in the face.
Through the first half the movie was slow and it did pick up slightly in the second half. Deepika Padukone looks stunning and made me curse every time she left the frame. The entire movie as a whole lacked any sort of drama. Though the acting of Farhan and Deepika was quite nice there was no drama in the climax. A well rounded movie this is definitely one to watch.
